Rugs: Side cords
This is only extended by: Firstly, Kazaks sometimes use bands of colours, but still maintain a treble cord . Secondly, old Chinese use a white cotton, single or double cord. Thirdly, two towns in Persia use mauve silk cords on their woollen rugs.
Key No. 5
1 . Most carpets have their single side cords overcast in wool, silk or cotton
2. The rugs which are different are as follows:
Shiraz , Meshed Belouche , Turkish, Belouchistan, Tabriz, Caucasian, Kazaks .
3. Silk cords are used on old Kashans and Sehna rugs.
It, therefore, follows that if you find rugs in categories B, C, and D, they are soon identified. For example, it is hard for a beginner to tell the difference between a Shiraz and a Shirvan (Caucasian), (both geometrical designs). An easy way is by using key no. 5, the cords, the knot. The knot should be Persian for a Shiraz. Ghirdes for a Caucasan.
