Belouchestan rugs

Accent Rugs

At first glance to the layman, all Belouchestan rugs look dark and uninteresting with few other colours save black, dark brown, plum, beige and a little natural.

That might well be so by today's weavers, but, I can assure you, there are Belouchestan rugs in some of the world's finest collections, and quite rightly so. Old rugs, well made, have the most elaborate 'Kelim' ends ever seen on rugs.

Their design may be primitive and stylised, but it is subtle. The dyes are well balanced to give the best effect in a limited range.

The weave is from coarse to the extremity of fineness. The finest are classified as Meshed Belouche (which have a four stranded, check pattern flat cord —see Side cord section).
